In a shocking development, while trying to impress one side of the vote banks, the Nationalist Congress Party has hurt the sentiments of the farmers and 'Warkari community', by superimposing a goat on a picture of Shri Vitthal. The Warkari community- devotees of Bhagwan VItthal, is considered the biggest vote bank of the party.
It should be noted that Ashadi Ekadashi, a major Hindu festival celebrated in Maharashtra, and Bakri Eid falls on the same date June 29th. For unreserved, Shri Vithhal is the patron deity of Maharashtra & it is considered as the form of Shri Vishnu that is revered by hundreds of thousands of Varkaris who are staunchly vegetarian and eschew animal killing.
The development comes to main stream media after, author & speaker Shefali Vaidya throws the light on matter. While posting a photo of the calender she said," This is a calendar published by a @NCPspeaks official, superimposing a goat on a picture of Shri Vitthal, the patron deity of Maharashtra."
Tagging NCP working president, Supriya Sule and daughter of Sharad Pawar, Vaidya further asked, "Shri Vithhal is a form of Shri Vishnu that is revered by hundreds of thousands of Varkaris who are staunchly vegetarian and eschew animal killing. This is a gross insult to Hindu sentiments by @NCPspeaks. Does @supriya_sule approve this?"
In a photo, a goat's photo can be seen superimposed on a picture of Bhagwan Vitthal.
It should be noted, that nCP is notorious for hurting the Hindu sentiment. Earlier, NCP leader Jitendra Awhad, known for his controversial Hinduphobic statements, said that Ram Navami & Hanuman Janmotsav are meant to spark riots. Interestingly, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar was present on the stage when Awhad made the remarks.
