Maharashtra Police detains Avesh Shaikh for posting derogatory comments on Shivaji Maharaj

The complainant, who is an autorickshaw driver, alleged that he came across a post by the minor accused on Instagram on Friday, which contained derogatory remarks and images of Shivaji Maharaj, he said.

Mumbai, May 08 : In a shocking development, a minor was detained by the police in Maharashtra’s Thane district for allegedly posting derogatory remarks about warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on social media, an official said on Sunday.

As per the reports, a minor boy, who identifies himself as a ‘video creator’ on Instagram, published a story denigrating Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja and eulogising tyrant Tipu Sultan.
In his Instagram story, the accused claimed, “Shivaji ka baap hai Tipu Sultan or Shivaji chu*iya.” He further claimed that the tyrant is the father of India, the Marathas and the Muslim community.
 
 Based on a complaint, a case under sections 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.) and 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) of the IPC was registered, the official from Shanti Nagar police station in Bhiwandi said.
 
 
 
 
DCP (Zone II) Navnath Dhavle said, “Based on a complaint that somebody had put a post on Instagram that was defamatory to Shivaji Maharaj, we registered an FIR at the Shanti Nagar Police Station in Bhiwandi. After the probe, we found that the post had been uploaded on Instagram by a minor following which we took him into custody and as per law was sent to Bhiwandi Children’s Home.” 
 
The complainant, who is an autorickshaw driver, alleged that he came across a post by the minor accused on Instagram on Friday, which contained derogatory remarks and images of Shivaji Maharaj, he said.
 
The complainant claimed that the remarks had hurt the sentiments of citizens who revered the warrior king, he said.
The minor accused was detained by the police on Saturday, he said, adding that further probe is underway.
