After three years of her husband's supreme sacrifice in the Galwan Valley violent clash between India and China, Lieutenant Rekha Singh is all ready to go to eastern Ladakh, where she will handle the repsonsibilty of the supply chain of equipment, clothing and ammunition of the Indian Army at a forward location along the Line of Actual Control.

Lt Rekha Singh, the wife of Galwan Valley clash hero Naik Deepak Singh, was inducted into the Indian Army on Saturday after the successful completion of training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai. She was commissioned as an officer on Saturday in the Army Ordnance Corps, responsible for providing material and logistical support to the force in the instance of war.
 
 
Naik Deepak Singh, a nursing assistant in the Army’s Bihar regiment, was martyred in the Galwan Valley clashes in June 2020, which claimed the lives of 20 Indian soldiers. He has posthumously conferred the Vir Chakra in 2021 in recognition of his bravery which was received by Rekha Singh.
At the passing out parade, Lt Rekha said the commissioning marks a proud moment for her and her family. She said that her husband would be proud as well after going through rigorous training as an Army cadet for 11 months at the academy. "I am feeling very happy and this is really a proud moment for me as well as my family and obviously for my husband. Wherever he is he must be feeling very proud," she said.
 
When asked why did she immediately wanted to join the Indian Army after her husband was martyred, she said that she wanted to go through all of the things which he went. "It was a very hard step I took but I wanted to feel and go through all of the things which my husband went through so I decided to join Indian Army and finally I made this successful," she added.
 
 
"After my husband passed away I decided to join Indian Army and started preparing for it. Today my training has been completed and I have become a Lieutenant. I am feeling very proud and I would like to advise all the women candidates out there to believe in themselves and do whatever they want to do without thinking about what others will say," she was quoted sa saying to ANI.
 
 
Apart from this, the first batch of five women cadets were commissioned as officers into the Army’s Regiment of Artillery on Saturday after the parade, a first in the Indian Army.
