"Ensure communal harmony in society", Home Ministry issues advisory ahead of Hanuman Jayanti

New Delhi, April 5: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday issued an advisory to all the states and Union territories ahead of Hanuman Jayanti, which will be celebrated tomorrow.

“The MHA has issued an advisory to all states in preparation for Hanuman Jayanti. The governments are encouraged to ensure the maintenance of law and order, peaceful observance of the festival, and monitoring of any factors that could disturb communal harmony in society", the ministry said in a tweet.
 
 


The Ministry's advisory comes in the backdrop of recent incidents of violence in some states including Bihar, Bengal and Maharashtra on the occasion of Ram Navami last week.
 
On Wednesday, the Delhi Police conducted flag march in Jahangirpuri area ahead of the Hanuman Jayanti. The police have denied permission to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and another group to undertake processions in the area. Communal clashes had erupted in this area last year on Hanuman Jayanti, injuring eight cops and a local resident.

The state of West Bengal witnessed ugly violence in Howrah and Hooghly on the occasion of Ram Navami this year. The Calcutta high court has asked the state government to requistion central forces to assist the police in maintaining peace during Hanuman Jayanti. The court also directed the Centre to make swift arrangements for such deployment on receipt of requisition from the state.
 
Ram Violence reported in different states:
 
Several vehicles were torched and shops ransacked as violence erupted in West Bengal’s Howrah district on Ram Navami whereas in Bihar houses were destroyed by radicals.
 
In Fatehpur area of Gujarat’s Vadodara district, stones were hurled at a Shobha Yatra taken out on the occasion of Ram Navami on Thursday. A video of the incident shows some miscreants pelting stones from rooftops on the Ram Navami procession. Police are seen trying to bring the situation under control.

In Maharashtra, A fight broke out between two men outside a Ram temple in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar's Kiradpura area in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district on Wednesday night. The matter escalated when more people reached the spot and started pelting stones at each other, police said, adding that the mob also set several public and police vehicles on fire outside the temple.
