New Delhi, April 21 :Chaos prevailed on Twitter after Elon Musk-owned social media giant Twitter removed legacy verified blue ticks from all prominent accounts on Thursday, April 20.
As per the reports, politicians like Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, to Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan have all lost their Twitter blue ticks that helped verify their identity and distinguish them from impostors on the micro-blogging platform.
Twitter began making good on its promise Thursday to remove the blue checks from accounts that don’t pay a monthly fee to keep them.
The legacy blue checkmarks were previously granted to journalists, public officials, and celebrities for free as a measure against impersonation and spam. However, Twitter officially discontinued the legacy blue checkmarks on April 20, 2022, under Elon Musk’s ownership. Twitter now restricts verification marks only to paid users, businesses, government entities, and officials. As per Twitter’s new policy, only individual Twitter users that pay for the premium Twitter Blue can keep the verified credential.
