Assam's Bihu Dance

Bihu dance is a traditional folk dance of the North Eastern state of Assam, which is performed during the Bihu festival. The dance is usually performed by both men and women, often in groups, and is characterized by energetic movements and steps.

The dance is accompanied by traditional Assamese music played on instruments such as the dhol (drum), taal (cymbals), pepa (a type of horn), and gogona (a reed instrument). The dancers wear colorful traditional costumes, with women typically wearing mekhela chador (a two-piece attire) and men wearing dhoti-kurta.

The dance movements are usually fast-paced and involve circular or semi-circular patterns, with the dancers moving their hips and arms in sync with the beat of the music. The dance often portrays the celebration of the harvest season and the joy of community gatherings.

Bihu dance is an important cultural symbol of Assam and is often performed on various occasions, including weddings, cultural events, and competitions.
