Captain Shiva Chouhan of the Indian Army’s Fire and Fury Sappers has successfully completed 100 days at the world’s highest battlefield Siachen.

New Delhi, April 14: The first woman officer deployed at the post, Captain Shiva Chouhan, on Wednesday successfully completed 100 days of deployment at the world’s highest battlefield — Siachen.

Sharing the news, Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army wrote on its Twitter handle, “Capt Shiva Chouhan of Fire and Fury Sappers, first Woman Officer to be op deployed at #SiachenGlacier has successfully completed 100 days at the world’s highest battlefield in unforgiving weather conditions and freezing winter temps.”
 
 
 
Siachen is known for its inclement weather and the heavy toll it takes on the human body. Notably, temperature often drops to as low as -60° Celsius during the winters in Siachen, with avalanches and landslides also being commonplace.
 
Capt Shiva had to undergo arduous training before her posting in Kumar Post. The Siachen Glacier is the highest battleground on earth, where India and Pakistan have fought intermittently since 1984.
 

Who is Captain Shiva Chauhan?

1. Captain Shiva Chauhan is from the Corps of Engineers. She hails from Rajasthan, is a Bengal Sapper Officer.

2. Capt. Chauhan did her schooling from Udaipur and graduated from NJR Institute of Technology, Udaipur, in civil engineering.

3. Capt Shiva Chouhan lost her father at the age of 11 and her mother, a housewife, took care of her studies.

4. She was posted at the Kumar post, located at an altitude of around 15,600 feet in Siachen, for a three-month stint after she underwent rigorous training.

5. Covering a distance of 508 kms, Capt Chouhan successfully led the Sura Soi Cycling Expedition from Siachen War Memorial to Kargil War Memorial conducted on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas in July 2022.

6. She took up the challenge of leading the men of Sura Soi Engineer Regiment at Siachen and, based on her performance, was selected to undergo training at the Siachen Battle School.
