Lahore, Mar 7: In yet another attack on minorities in Pakistan, Hindu students were brutally beaten and tortured for celebrating the Holi festival at Punjab University, Lahore. In this attack, 15 Hindu students were injured after 30 students gathered to celebrate Holi.
After the attack, when the victims protested against the attack outside Vice Chancellor’s office, the university guards thrashed them.
Kashif Brohi, a University student who witnessed the attack, said in a statement, “As students gathered on the lawns of the law college, the Islami Jamiat Tulba (IJT) activists forcibly stopped them from celebrating Holi, which led to a clash resulting in injuries to 15 Hindu students.” Reportedly, the University administration had granted permission to the Hindu students to celebrate Holi. In a video, guards were seen distributing batons among them.
According to Dawn report, Sindh Council general secretary Kashif Brohi said that the members of the Hindu community and the council had organised a Holi celebration after getting permission from the university administration. He said the IJT activists started hurling threats after students had posted invitation [Holi celebration] on their Facebook page.
Further, he said on Monday morning the members of the Sindh Council and Hindu community gathered outside PU law College to celebrate the Holi when the IJT activists carrying guns and batons attacked them. He said 15 students from Hindu community and Sindh Council suffered injuries during clashes and moved away without celebrating the event. He said the students later gathered to protest outside the vice chancellor office when the security guards came there holding batons and started beating them.
