Ancient 12th century idol of Bhagwan Krishna , of probable Chalukya origin, unearthed in Chandrapur

In the idol, Shri Krishna is wearing a Karandak crown on his head, and there is a flute in his hand, both sides of the temple have been carved in Dakshinatya style of sculpting.

Mumbai, Mar 7: Recently, an ancient idol of Bhagwan Krishna , dating back to 12th century CE was unearthed in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur during the excavation of an under-construction house. The visuals that became public, show an idol of Shri Krishna playing flute being taken out by construction workers.

According to historians, the idol dates back to as early as the 12th century CE and is the discovery is being termed as marvelous. As per reports, Gajanan, a resident of Khedmakta village in Bramhapuri tehsil of Chandrapur, employed some workers to begin digging a pit in his house for the construction of a toilet. For this purpose, a seven feet deep pit was being dug when a black stone-like object was discovered by the workers.
 
 
 
 
 
As soon as the word got out about the discovery of a new idol, villagers and devotees from across the region started visiting the house to catch a glimpse of the structure and offer prayers. According to scholar Ashok Singh Thakur, the discovered idol belongs to 12th century, and mostly to the Chalukya period. Notably, this is the first time such an idol of Bhagwan Krishna, engraved in the southern style of sculpting was found.
 
In the idol, Shri Krishna is wearing a Karandak crown on his head, and there is a flute in his hand, both sides of the temple have been carved in Dakshinatya style of sculpting, it is possible that someone made this idol from the south and brought it to Chandrapur district and due to some reason land buried in, except for the statue during excavation.
