Chhattisgarh: CAF assistant platoon commander killed in IED blast in Bijapur, 8th such killing by Naxalites this year

Raipur, Mar 27: An assistant platoon commander of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) was killed on Monday when an improvised explosive device ( IED ) planted by Naxalites went off in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said. He was the eight security personnel killed by Maoists this year in the state.

The incident occurred at around 7.40am between Etepal and Timenar villages under Mirtur police station limits when teams of CAF were out on an area domination operation to ensure security for road construction work in the area.
 
 
The victim, Vijay Yadav, was part of an area domination exercise and accidentally stepped on the pressured IED hidden between Etepal and Timenar villages. Yadav was a resident of Jagdalpur and a native of Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh.
 
On February 26, a 43-year-old security personnel from the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Orchha development block of Narayanpur district.
 
The victim, Sanjay Lakda, was part of the security forces conducting anti-Naxal search operations in the area. On February 25, three personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) were killed in the Sukma district and before that, two were killed in Rajnandgaon and one in Dantewada.
