Since 1998, after Russia went bankrupt, America/NATO assumed her to be Militarily/ Financially weak. America/ NATO was very confident of their Military/Economic Superiority. This gave them a feeling that they are above laws that Govern Human Behaviours such as Universality, Credibility and Reciprocity. Since then; Russia performed an Economic Miracle. To offset it, America/ NATO began by blocking Nord Two Pipelines. On realising Russian superiority in Missile/ Nuclear Space Warfare, America tried to Find a War that would deplete Russian Weaponry to such an extent that Russia would, once again, be that Russia of 1998. She readily found a proxy in Ukraine, keen on joining NATO/European Union. America compelled NATO to agree to her proposal. The result is Russo Ukraine Conflict.
Russian Military Offensive in Ukraine has set in motion a Chain of Events.It resulted in a Global Upheaval which, in Political and Economic Terms, is comparable to World War I and II. This probably is the Initial Phase of this conflict with more players getting involved as Time passed by.Yet few conclusions can be drawn after completion of One Year of this Conflict.This Conflict is Result of Illusions,participants had about themselves. America/NATO and Countries bordering this leading Nuclear Power wanted a Security Situation and Clear Rules of the Game, together with a High Degree of Influence over Ukraine.In addition, Western Europe wanted to preserve and strengthen its ties with Russia as its Main Resource Base and also Gain Access to her extensive Market. Ukraine would have the possibility of a Soft Integration into Greater Europe while maintaining deep economic and cultural ties with Russia.When Russia entered Ukraine on 24 February,2022,she wanted to solve this issue within few days,spilling little blood,just like 2008 Georgian Scenario.She obviously failed to achieve this objective which was a Thorn in her Flesh for more than 30 years.This anti Russian outpost turned out to be very strong and ready to fight even at the cost of her own destruction.
Right now, offensives are being carried out only in the Donbass,not along Entire Front, but in Localised Areas,mainly by the Forces of Wagner Private Mercenary Contractor Group and Former Local Militias. Russian Army was not prepared for a Large Scale Land Offensive/Conflict on a Front Line of a couple of thousand kilometres, with a need to conduct Combined Armed Operations on the level of World War Two,backed up by Mobilisation of hundreds of thousands of Men.This prevented Russia from conducting a Full Scale Offensive with the Decisive Goal of defeating Ukrainian Army. It seems that the Russian Army may be preparing/able to do that in 2023.
America
America wanted complete control/dominance over what goes on in the World which entails that interests of her counterparts is determined in Washington. This inflexibility has led to current crisis, wherein,America could not reach an agreement with Russia.Fact is; America has Nothing to Lose, and Everything to Gain from prolonging Ukraine Conflict. This was a routine for her since she has been following the principle of “Might goes before Right”. This mentality has already led to a sharp weakening of American position in Middle East; prospect of Conflict with China has become almost Irreversible and she has laid Time Bombs under her relations with allies in Europe and Asia that are likely to go off in Future.
After Second World War, America built up a Global System where she has taken control of Political and Economic processes around the world without much resistance. This has resulted in; affected countries getting integrated into the American System, thereby obtaining a Security Umbrella without spending much on their Armies and yet have an Access to Latest American Technology. Thus,America forced others to bend to her will,keeping a required safety margin while retaining a large base.
America was confident that a Military Conflict like Ukraine can not be won without her direct involvement. This is supported due to fact that,as on date, Ukrainian Army is holding up quite well.But America/ Ukraine must realise that Russia has so far engaged only a small part of her Military Resources in this operation, and the degree of escalation would only be determined by Political Decisions,Not Military, and Mobilisation Capabilities of both sides.But if conflict escalates,it will be extremely difficult for America/NATO to respond without directly engaging their Air Defences and Air Forces in this conflict.
Western Europe/NATO Countries
Prosperity and wealth of Europe/NATO Countries,as on date, has rested on Two Pillars: American Military/Political/ Economic Roof and Cheap Russian Resources.This has led to their acceptance of most vicious Anti Russia sanctions with greatest fervour without any regards for any Anticipated Economic/Existential Damage to them.This conflict has deprived them of a major Market and most important Resource Base.Also,it has driven them into total dependence on America who has real Military Power and control over Global Political and Economic Processes.
As American/NATO attempt to shock and awe Russia economically have failed, they now either need a Military Victory or start Diplomatic Dialogue in Ukraine.The reasons are simple.a) Anticipated prospect of High Energy Prices in years ahead;b) Resultant De Industrialisation and Falling Living Standards c) Certain Global Recession d) Possibility of subsidising ruined Ukraine for Indefinite Times and e) Spectre of hundreds of billions dollars in losses from Lost Accumulated Investments in Russia.This is frightening without any solution in sight in near future.
One year ago, Russia gave West a last chance to prevent a full blown Russo Ukraine Conflict.West did not encash it. Resultantly; long standing problems of European Union, mainly, Migration Crisis and the constant concern about Economic Stability of Southern Europe was brushed under the carpet.

With active American/NATO Instigation and Support, successive Governments in Ukraine wanted to build a Mono Ethnic State hostile to Russia within its Post Soviet Borders with a significant Russian Population.This attempt to tilt decisively to American/NATO Block led to a Civil Conflict, each side supported by the West and Russia respectively. Ukraine will continue her fight on American/NATO Support because; she is capable of fighting for years. America/ NATO will withdraw All Support for Ukraine whenever her Army is defeated and become Physically Incapacitated of Fighting Russia or if Ukraine Physically Shrinks enough to lose its Strategic Significance.

To eliminate this disparity, Military/Financial Aid to Ukraine is required to be increased by at least 50 percent,At the Munich Security Conference held on 18 February,2023,all European Leaders have agreed.America/NATO make Two to Three lac Missiles/Bombs/Artillery Shells a year. If the war drags on, they will have to make Seven to Ten Lac Missiles/Bombs/Shells a year. President Putin spoke in front of a Joint Session ofRussian Parliament,Duma, where he claimed that war sparked by Russian Invasion of Ukraine as " Fight against West".Russia is suspending her participation in New START Nuclear Arms Treaty due to actions of America,France and Great Britain.The Treaty,runs out in February 2026 Russia has linked progress in talks to pulling back on involvement in Ukraine. This takes the World into Uncharted Territory. President Putin has directed his Defence ministry to prepare, not necessary carry out, possible nuclear tests.

As per Pentagon; Aid will come directly from its arsenals, and will include additional Ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, or HIMARS, along with Javelins, Tactical Vehicles and Anti Armor Rockets.This 32nd Military Aid Package brings American Military Aid commitment to over $30 Billion since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. As on Date, America has contributed most in supply of Western Weapons to Ukraine and has deployed a couple of thousands of American Soldiers, with adequate equipment and infrastructure, to NATO Countries to bolster NATO defences around Ukraine.

Colonel Abhay Patwardhan (Retd)
Colonel Abhay Balkrishna Patwardhan (Retd) did his BA in Political Science, B Sc in Biology, M Sc and M Phil in Defence Studies, and MBA in Finance and HR. He got commission in the Special Frontier Force and Commanded 19 Jat Regiment. In his 36-year service with the Army, he handled the insurgency in Nagaland, Mizoram, Khalistan and Kashmir; participated in the 1971 Indo-Pak war; trained the Mukti Bahini, and participated in Operation Blue Star at the Golden Temple in Amritsar in 1984. He also served as member of the IPKF in Sri Lanka, Commanded a battalion in Tawang, and received Unit Citation for Outstanding Ops against the Chinese in 1990-92.
He served as Instructor in Defence Services College at Wellington; Director of Training at Hq DG, NCC, New Delhi as In charge of the Republic Day Parade and Student Foreign Exchange Program. He received two medals for valour. Besides, he authored a “Reference Book on Disaster Management” in 2001 under Ministry of Defence. The book was released by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Defence Minister George Fernandez.
Col Patwardhan has authored six books in Marathi on Military aspects. He regularly writes in newspapers and magazines, gives lectures and presentations, participate in television debates on matters related to military, security and terrorism. He has been a visiting faculty in National Defence College and National Fire Service College on security and disaster management. He offers free guidance for entry to Defence Forces, Para Military forces, Police, and Service Selection Board interviews. So far 47 candidates have qualified as Officers and 14 as Personnel below the officer rank in defence forces and 39 in para-military forces and police. He is also member on various government bodies/organizations on various aspects of security and disaster management.
