New Delhi, February 10: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman raked up Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s gaffe in the state assembly today while presenting the state’s budget, saying she “prays that no one has to face such a situation”.
Slamming the Congress over their allegations of corruption against the ruling BJP in the Centre, Sitharaman said: “It is amazing that the Congress is talking about corruption. Even if you (the Congress) clean your mouth with Dettol, it will not get cleaned. A big mess happened in Rajasthan today. Last year's budget was read out. Mistakes can happen to anyone, but I pray to God that such a situation should not arise in front of anyone.”
This morning, Ashok Gehlot began reading out his Budget speech and went on for several minutes before realising that he was presenting an old one. He was finally stopped by his colleague and minister Mahesh Joshi.
As Gehlot kept reading out old schemes and urban development plans that were implemented last year, Joshi stopped the chief minister, who later apologized for the mix-up.
The assembly proceedings were disrupted as BJP MLAs stormed into the House. The Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan and BJP leader Gulab Chand Kataria asked whether the Budget was leaked. “This budget cannot be presented. Was it leaked?” he asked.
