In a significant move to promote domestic shipbuilding and strengthen its environmentally-friendly practices, Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) has partnered with the Adani Group to construct eco-friendly tugs.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone for the Indian shipbuilding industry, as it will produce the first tug in India to meet the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways’ (MoPSW) Approved Standard Tug Design Specifications (ASTDS).
The signing of the MoU is a testament to CSL's recent success in delivering two tugs, totaling 62 tons, to Ocean Sparkle Ltd, now under the ownership of Adani Harbour Services Ltd. These tugs, designed by renowned Canadian tug engineer Robert Allan Ltd, boast an impressive 62-ton bollard pull and utilize Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) technology. They are primarily intended for harbor towing and vessel assistance.
The partnership between CSL and the Adani Group perfectly supports the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which prioritizes building self-reliance and boosting local manufacturing. By constructing eco-friendly tugs, this collaboration not only enhances India's shipbuilding capabilities but also showcases the industry's dedication to preserving the environment.
Incorporating the Advanced Shipbuilding Technology Development Scheme (ASTDS), developed by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), guarantees conformity to rigorous performance and safety protocols. This standardization streamlines the procurement procedure and stimulates a thriving domestic shipbuilding market.
