In April 2023, Bud Light, the then top beer brand in the USA released an advertisement featuring Dylan Mulvaney, a biological male behaving as a female (popularly called trans woman). This ad received a heavy backlash in the USA. In the coming months, the sales of this beer fell. The stock price of its parent company also fell and consequently Bud Light lost its status as the top-selling beer in the USA. Why did this beer brand hire an LGBTQ activist for its ad? It is because of the Corporate Equality Index (CEI).

This index is a social credit score for business corporations. This CEI is overseen by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the largest LGBTQ+ political lobbying group in the world. HRC has received millions of dollars from the Open Society Foundation, which is owned by the notorious George Soros. This person is known to interfere in the politics of sovereign nations to initiate regime changes. There has also been news of alleged linkages of his foundation with the Indian National Congress (Congress Party). George Soros isn’t fond of the current government led by PM Narendra Modi. He has time and again made statements that indicate the hate that he has for PM Modi. Now back to our topic.

Human Rights Campaign issues report cards for the biggest corporations in the USA. The CEI is a rating criterion that involves a points system. HRC adds or subtracts points based on the criteria. The CEI is a 100-point score for companies for its inclusiveness. The main categories of the CEI are:

  1. Workforce Protection: Employee should not be discriminated against based on their sexuality.

  2. Inclusive Benefit: Health care for LGBTQ people.

  3. Inclusive Culture: Gender-neutral toilets and dress codes.

  4. Corporate Social Responsibility: Marketing products/services to the LGBTQ community.

  5. Responsible Citizenship: Negative points if a company gives donations to organizations who oppose equality to the LGBTQ community.

The above details are insignificant. What is significant is how such ‘human rights’ organizations decide some crap like CEI and extort money like mafias from the corporates. To top this emotional and financial extortion, the HRC even conducts an audit where it sends its representatives to check whether companies comply with the CEI points. The companies succumb to these demands of CEI because the inflow of investment is linked to this CEI score. The CEI is a part of the sham called ESG i.e. Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (discussed in an earlier article). The top investment companies in the USA pressurizes companies to comply with ESG.

In India, there is the India Workplace Equality Index (IWEI), which oversees whether big Indian corporations include LGBTQ people in their workforce. The IWEI was launched in 2020. It is growing rapidly with more and more big companies in India are succumbing to this crap. The IWEI has categorized companies as Gold, Silver and Bronze employers. One visit to their website (https://workplaceequalityindex.in/) and you will see the list of all big companies of India.

There are 9 parameters in which these ratings are given which are mentioned on the website.

This emotional and financial extortion of companies must stop. The only objective of a company is to earn profits. Why should companies hire people based on their sexuality and not on merit? Why do these indices have a say in a company’s internal matters? Is the sexuality of an employee more important than his merit and work? Why should other employees not belonging to the LGBTQ community adhere to gender-neutral toilets and gender pronouns? Isn’t this a restriction of their freedom of speech and expression?

This CEI and the one in India are now applicable only to large companies. But the applicability of this crap index to smaller companies is not far. This index in India must be scrapped forthwith to ensure robust growth of companies rather than wasting precious resources (time, money, and energy) in disgusting sensitivity training programs and discussing sexuality at the workplace. People should get hired on their merit and not because of their sexuality. This can be done only by scrapping such extortionate corporate equality index and their ilk.
