It seems like taking care of the citizens is also a crime in the DMK-led state, as the Tamil Nadu police has arrested Tamil Nadu BJP leader and actor Ranjana Natchiyaar for stopping a school bus and slapping a few students who were footboarding dangerously on a government bus in Chennai.
The news came to the limelight after the video of the incident viral on social media. In an undated video which went viral on social media, the students are seen hanging onto the railings of a government bus. Natchiyar was passing by in her car and saw the students footboarding on the bus.
Enraged, Natchiyaar stopped the bus and was seen engaging in a heated argument with the bus driver and abusing him. She then shouted at the students who were travelling on the footboard and forced them to get down from the bus.
Natchiyaar then goes to the backside of the bus and reprimands the students who are sitting on the footboard. She is seen pulling, and hitting. A case was registered in connection with the incident. Subsequently, the police arrived at her house and took her into custody, but not before arguing and mishandling a woman police officer.
BJP leader CT Ravi condemned the arrest of Natchiyaar and said it should be the chief minister, transport minister and the officers who should be sent behind bars as they were responsible for schoolchildren travelling on the footboard of buses, putting their lives at great risk.
He urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin to ensure the release of Natchiyaar.
