Panic triggers in Karnataka as Zika virus detected near Bengaluru : Know about it

Authorities in Bengaluru are on high alert after the Zika virus was detected in a mosquito in the Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka.This comes after the outbreak of the virus in Kerala. Every day, tens of thousands of grapes are transported from Chikkaballapur district to Kerala, as Kerala represents the largest market for grapes.

According to SS Mahesh, District Health Officer of Chikkaballapur, "The Zika virus was found in a mosquito in Chikkaballapur, which is adjacent to Bengaluru."
“Don’t panic, just be alert. If you observe any signs of fever, headache, conjunctivitis, rashes, or muscular/joint pains, it would be advisable to get yourself tested immediately,” advised Karnataka’s health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao while speaking private media house.
“There is nobody who has been infected with Zika, and no confirmation of any person testing positive for it,” said D Randeep, Karnataka’s Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare.Mahesh said the mosquitoes were collected for examination in August and Zika virus was detected in one of the mosquitoes. The results were disclosed on October 25 as part of a state-wide drive.
 
 
A total of 100 samples were collected from across the state, with six from Chikkaballapur. Five of them tested negative, but one tested positive for the Zika virus."An alert has been issued in a 5-kilometer radius around Talkaebetta (where the case was detected) in Chikkaballapur," he said.
All cases of fever in the area are being closely analyzed and samples from three patients who experienced high fever have been sent for analysis.

Furthermore, pregnant women infected with Zika may run the risk of miscarriage or severe congenital disabilities in their newborns.
