In a shocking development, a clash broke out in the premises of Savitribai Phule Pune University, after goons of the Students Federation of India (SFI)- the students wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) brutally attacked members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
Although, most of the media houses reported the incident claiming that ABVP is the culprit, News Bharati is here with inquired facts to report the other side of the story, neglected by mainstream media.
The incident took place around noon on 1 November, in the cafeteria of the university. As per the reports circulating on social media, three members of the ABVP including Mahadev Ranga (23) were brutally got injured in the attack.
The video of incidents has also made rounds on social media. The ABVP has filed a complaint in Chatushringi police station (Pune), against the SFI Goons.
The case has been registered against the SFI members, Akshay Govind Nirmal, Abhishek Maruti Shinde, Ganesh Balu Jankar, Somnath Govind Nirmal, and Asmita Ghaware. They are booked under IPC of 324, 323, 504, 143, 147,149 along with 135.
In the complaint, ABVP has accused SFI of forcefully enrolling members, further intensifying the conflict on campus.
As per the copy of the FIR, the SFI activists without obtaining permission, conducted a membership drive, on Wednesday morning near Aniket canteen in campus. The SFI activists were forcing other students to become members of their unit. After noticing their stall, an ABVP member asked them about it, however, the SFI goons started verbally abusing them. Soon a heated verbal exchange escalated into a physical fight after SFI member Ganesh Balu Jankar attacked Mahadev Ranga with the flag stick.
Apart from Ranga, they also attacked other ABVP members.
The security department informed that the police were giving a patient hearing to activists of both organisations. The assistant security officer of SPPU said, “We reported the matter to the police as soon as we were informed about the clashes between two student groups. They are currently at the police station and action will be taken accordingly.”
Another Incident
A day after this incident, another controversy erupted after offensive graffiti featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was discovered on the walls of Savitribai Phule Pune University hostel number 8. Condemning the act, around 200 workers and representatives of the BJP staged a protest against it. However, the peaceful protest soon turned into turned violent when three-four students belonging to the Left group showed up in the area.
