New Delhi, Nov 2: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on November 2, to question him in connection with its ongoing probe into the Delhi excise policy case.

Kejriwal will skip the summons to head for campaigning for elections in four states. This came after he wrote a letter to ED while questioning the legality of the Enforcement Directorate summons issued to him. He has responded to the summons by ED claiming that he is a star campaigner with state elections coming up and therefore, he has other commitments which would not allow him to attend the summons. Owing to his supposed commitments, he has asked ED to withdraw the summons.

Arvind Kejriwal also stated that since Diwali is coming up, he will be unavailable to attend an ED summons on the 2nd of November. However, Diwali festivities are going to start from the 10th of November. It is also interesting to note that Arvind Kejriwal has issued a response to the ED summons on the day of the summons – 2nd November, while the summons was issued on the 30th of October.

The BJP responded saying that the law was just taking its natural cause and the Delhi CM must comply with it. "The law is doing its work. The ED has summoned him under the law. 2 days ago, the Supreme Court observation regarding Manish Sisodia's bail said that there is a money trail of Rs. 338 crores. Arvind Kejriwal has to answer this because it is not possible that there is a money trail and he is not aware of it... He has to answer this question. He also has to answer why the excise was increased to 12% from 5%... He is playing the victim card that this is vendetta politics" BJP spokesperson Harish Khurana said.

Arvind Kejriwal was earlier summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in April this year, in connection with the case. However, Kejriwal was not named as an accused in the first information report (FIR) filed by the CBI on August 17, last year.
