President Draupadi Murmu Terminates Army Major from Service for Breaching National Security Protocol

President Draupadi Murmu has terminated an Indian Army Major from Service for reportedly communicating with a Pakistani intelligence officer, according to defence officials.The army major earlier joined the Army's Strategic Forces Command.

The Major was found guilty of conduct that presented a threat to national security after an inquiry by the Army.
The fired Major reportedly used social media to communicate with a Pakistani intelligence operative.
 
According to sources, a panel of officers was formed in March 2022 to investigate the claims levelled against the Major.
According to media sources, during the inquiry, it was discovered that the Major's electronic equipment included a duplicate of classified papers, which is absolutely against army norms.
 
During the inquiry, the Major's acquaintance with certain senior officers was also looked into, and it is reported that some members of a WhatsApp group called 'Patiala Peg' were also scrutinized, according to the sources.
 
A Brigadier and a Lieutenant Colonel have also received show cause notices for breaching social media norms and being members of the WhatsApp group.
 
According to reports, this WhatsApp group was sharing offensive content.
The Army is looking into four of its officers who were members of the 'Patiala Peg' WhatsApp group.
It was also believed, that Pakistan Intelligence personnel were also members of the WhatsApp group.
