Narayanpur, Jan 3: The mainstream media is spreading half-baked truth about tribals vandalising a church in Bastar’s Narayanpur district in Chattisgarh during protests. However, these protests came after the residents came to know of the illegal and forced religious conversion of tribals to Christianity.

Notably, members of tribal communities took out protest rallies against religious conversions, following which clashes took place between the tribal groups and Christian tribals. However, things got worsened when Narayanpur superintendent of police (SP) Sadanand Kumar sustained injuries on his head during these protests.

Earlier, Sarva Adivasi Samaj had submitted a memorandum to the collector’s office claiming illegal conversions and illegal construction of churches are happening. Later, on Monday, members of the Sarva Adivasi Samaj called for a protest against the clashes. To prevent the situation from going out of hand, police deployment was done in the area.

However, the protest escalated and the mob tried to vandalise a church. Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Sadanand Kumar, who tried to calm the mob, was injured. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

"Today we held a meeting with the tribal community leaders at the Collector's office where we asked them to keep their protests peaceful. But some people went to the church to attack it. Police reached the spot and tried to convince them to keep calm. Suddenly, I was attacked from behind due to which I got injured. Further probe will be carried out soon," SP Sadanand Kumar told the media.
