Raipur, Jan 2: In the latest development, the police have arrested two persons in connection to the murder of a young tribal girl who was killed with a screwdriver in Chhattisgarh's Korba district after she refused to talk to one of the accused.

 

 

The accused, identified as Shahbaz Khan was arrested along with his aide Tarbez Khan. The victim, identified as Neelkusum Panna (20) was found dead in the Pump house colony of Korba on December 24. Tribal by birth, Neelkusum had converted to Christianity.

 

According to the police, when the accused reached there, the victim was alone in the house. He covered her mouth with a pillow to muffle her screams and stabbed her 51 times with a screwdriver. The officer said that the victim's brother later found her lying in a pool of blood when he reached home.

 

As per reports by Dainik Jagran and others, the accused took a flight from Gujarat to Chattisgarh to kill the girl for ignoring his phone calls. As per the postmortem report, the victim was stabbed 34 times in the chest, 16 times in the back, and once in the side with a screwdriver. The wound near the heart was the most severe.

 

 

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused had befriended the victim three years ago and later moved to Ahmedabad (Gujarat) for work. The duo stayed in touch for some time. Later, the girl stopped talking to him. The accused tried to approach the victim, but she refused to entertain him.

 

Officials said that after killing Kusum, the accused went Ambikapur and then to Nagpur. The other accused, Tarbez Khan, helped the main accused escape from Korba.

 

"Four police teams were engaged to investigate the matter. The police team present in Rajnandgaon arrested the accused while checking the passenger bus. During interrogation, it has come to the fore that the accused attacked the deceased several times with a screwdriver and killed her," SP Santosh Singh said.
