Kochi, September 30: Giving another blow to the banned Islamic outfit, Kerala high court directed the Popular Front of India (PFI) to pay in two weeks ₹5.20 crore as damages estimated to have been caused during the bandh.
Morover, the HC also ordered the state government to make PFI state secretary Abdul Sathar an accused in all the cases registered in the state in connection with illegal Bandh that was called against the raids on the premises of the group and people associated with it las week.
The HC has directed PFI to deposite the money within two weeks and has set it as precondition for bail of those arrested by Kerala police in cooncetion with the voilence and vandalism during the Illegal protest.
During the hearing the HC said, "PFI and its state general secretary cannot feign ignorance of their constitutional obligations. Their action of inciting supporters and goading them into violent acts cannot be legally countenanced and they must be held responsible and made accountable for their illegal actions. If Rs 5.2 crore is not deposited within two weeks, the state government can initiate recovery proceedings."
On September 23, the Kerala HC had initiated a suo motu case against PFI leaders who called for a strike in the state in violation of its order.According to the KSRTC, more than a hundred of its buses were attacked and pelted with stones across Kerala during the hartal.
KSRTC had claimed that it had incurred a loss of Rs 5.20 crore due to the damages to its buses and subsequent disruption in services.
