Deharadun, September 14: Following the footsteps of the Uttar Pradesh government, the BJP government in Uttarakhand is also considering a survey of madrassas in the state. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said a survey of madrassas in the state is necessary, as "all sorts of things" are coming to the fore about them.
“Survey of madrassas is a must as all sorts of things are coming to the surface about them in different places. Their survey will bring out the truth," Dhami told reporters.
He made the remarks a day after the newly-elected president of the Uttarakhand Waqf Board Shadab Shams stressed the need for a survey of the madrassas in the state. The Uttarakhand Waqf Board runs 103 madrassas in the state.
The Uttar Pradesh government has began a survey of "unrecognised" madrassas in the state to gather information about the number of teachers, curriculum, and basic facilities available there, among others.
Minister of State for Minority Affairs Danish Azad Ansari said the survey will help gather details such as the name of the madrassa and the institution operating it, whether it is running in a private or rented building, and information regarding basic facilities of drinking water, furniture, electricity supply, and toilet, PTI reported.
In addition, information regarding a number of teachers and students in the madrassa, its curriculum, source of income, and its affiliation with any non-government organisation will also be gathered, he said.
