Encounter between Assam Rifles and militants across Indo - Myanmar border

An incident of firing on Assam Rifles troops by militant groups from across the Indo-Myanmar Border took place in the gen area of Arunachal Pradesh"s Tirap Changlang on Tuesday (Aug 9), Defence PRO of Tezpur informed.

Tezpur, Aug 9: Almost a week before the 75th Independence Day of the country, an incident of firing on Assam Rifles troops by militant groups from across the Indo-Myanmar Border took place in the gen area of Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap Changlang on Tuesday (Aug 9), Defence PRO of Tezpur informed.

According to the Defence PRO, the incident took place while the troops were undertaking enhanced patrolling activities in view of heightened vigil for the forthcoming Independence Day. One Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) sustained a minor injury in his hand. No other injury or damage has been reported so far. Enhanced surveillance by own troops to continue.
 
 
 
 
 
Regional media reports Superintendent of Changlang police Mihin Gambo saying, “There were reports of gunshots during the wee hours of the morning at Pangsau Pass. We cannot confirm about underground outfits as of now as police team are yet to return.” The suspected militants are expected to have soon fled from the spot after carrying out the attack.
 
 According to the reports of regional media, the incident took place at about 4.44 am when a joint group of NSCN (K-YA) and ULFA (I) militants ambushed the 19 Assam Rifles team. After a flush out from Bhutan and Bangladesh, these militant organizations have set up camps in Myanmar, and often sneak into India to carry out their subversive activities.
