Rajasthan: Dalit child thrashed by teacher in Barmer for failing to answer questions

The teacher allegedly beat up the Class 7 Dalit student after he failed to answer questions; the teacher identified as Ashok Mali & was taken into custody after various Dalit organisations staged a protest after the incident came to light.

Barmer, August 25: Just weeks after a Class 3 student died after allegedly being beaten by a teacher in Jalore, a similar incident of student thrashing by the teacher has been from Barmer.

In this latest incident, the teacher allegedly beat up the Class 7 Dalit student after he failed to answer questions. The teacher identified as Ashok Mali, was taken into custody after various Dalit organisations staged a protest after the incident came to light.
 
 
Meanwhile, police said the parents of the Dalit student have not yet filed any complaint. The fresh incident reportedly took place at a government school in Barmer.

Following the thrashing, the student reportedly became unconscious and had to be admitted to a hospital. "The condition of the student is stable. He had complained of stomach ache and headache but there was no serious injury. However, we have done precautionary CT scan and sonography," Dr Dilip Chaudhary, who treated the child.

 
On July 20, a Dalit student was beaten up his teacher for allegedly touching the water pot reportedly meant for teacher. The 9-YO child later died at a Gujarat hospital on August 13.

After the student's death, the accused teacher Chhail Singh was arrested by police.
