Madhya Pradesh: IMD issues Red Alert for heavy rains in 39 districts; Bhopal schools closed

A red alert has been sounded across 39 districts in Madhya Pradesh as have been affecting daily life, causing waterlogging in cities like Jabalpur and Bundelkhand.

Bhopal, August 22: As heavy rainfall has continued to lash parts of Madhya Pradesh, an order was prompted from the Naramadapuram District administration to declare a holiday in schools for today. Schools in state capital Bhopal will also remain shut today.

Moreover, a red alert has been sounded across 39 districts in the state including Bhopal, Ujjain, Jabalpur, Ratlam, Neemuch and Mandsaur. Rains have been affecting daily life in MP, causing waterlogging in cities like Jabalpur and Bundelkhand.
 
 
Also, the water level in Narmada river significantly rose due to incessant rains yesterday. Moderate rainfall is likely today in Indore, Gwalior, Dhar, and Khargone, said the weather department.

In Narmadapuram, the gates of Tawa Dam and in Bhopal, the gates of 3 dams have been opened to release excess rainwater. Due to heavy rains, all the small and big rivers in Madhya Pradesh are seeing a rise in water level, due to which Narmada to Chambal Betwa Tapti Shipra.

As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), a deep depression over northeast MP is expected to move west-northwestwards across North MP and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area today.
 
 
Jabalpur's Hanuman Taal and Bundelkhand's Chhatarpur areas saw water overflow due to continous heavy rainfall. The latter has been put on high alert.

In view of a heavy rains, the MP govt has given instructions to remain alert. Many bridges were flooded due to which roads had to be closed. The IMD once again alerted District Administration, NDRF, & SDRF in MP in view of the possibility of heavy rains.
