Manipur Landslide: Recent death toll counts 47; 28 soldiers found dead

Imphal, Jul 5: The Manipur landslide has claimed 47 lives until now, according to the recent reports. The death toll has risen since the last 24 hours after seven more bodies were retrieved from the debris. The rescue teams presently continue with the search for the remaining 14 people, including two soldiers of the Territorial Army.

 

 

 

 

According to the recent reports, 28 soldiers of the Territorial Army unit, including the commanding officer Lt Col Kapil Dev Pandey, were found dead under the debris. However, 13 others have been rescued in injured condition. The search and rescue operation started on Thursday (Jun 30) morning, as the landslide took place on Wednesday (Jun 29) midnight. A total of 43 soldiers were in the camp when the landslide struck near Tupul railway station camp.

 

 

 

 

 

Other than army personnel and soldiers, 36 civilians were hit by the landslide. The toll also includes three railway employees. Out of the 36, merely five were rescued and the bodies of 19 civilians have been recovered, remaining 12 are still missing.

 

At the same time, the mortal remains of five army personnel of the Territorial Army, including that of Lieutenant Colonel Kapil Dev Pandey, killed in the Noney landslide, were sent to their respective home stations on Monday (Jul 4) by an Indian Air Force aircraft. They were given full military honours at the Imphal International Airport by GOC Red Shield Division and IG IGAR (South).
