Ahmedabad, July 22: The Bajrang Dal members reportedly attacked the Congress office in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad and changed its name to ‘Hajj House, hours after Gujarat Congress President Jagdish Thakor advocated the Gujarat Assembly election manifesto for the minority communities.
The workers of the right-wing outfit also pasted stickers of Haj House on the statue of late former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), a sister organisation of the Bajrang Dal, said its workers carried out the attack to protests act protest against Gujarat Congress president's remarks.
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla shared the video of the Congress leader’s speech on Twitter and said: “This is the difference in thoughts & actions. For BJP & PM Modi - the poor have the first right on resources of the nation For Congress- one community has first right on the tijori / resources! Congress Gujarat Chief explains and elaborates on Dr Manmohan Singh’s statement.”
In a video shared by the VHP, protesters were seen writing "Haj House" on the walls of the party office using spray colours and defacing the photos of various Congress leaders on the banners put up in the premises.
Thakor recently endorsed former prime minister Manmohan Singh's views that minorities must have the first right on the resources of the country. He also called for an election manifesto for the minority communities and said the Congress has always supported the minorities and never changed its ideology, irrespective of whether it occupies power or not.
