Ranchi, July 20: In a shocking incident, a female sub-inspector was mowed down to death during a vehicle check on Tuesday night. According to the reports, she was crushed by the unnamed individuals who were reportedly smuggling cattle. She has been identified as sub-inspector Sandhya Topno who was posted as in charge of Tupudana OP.
SSP Ranchi has informed accused has been arrested and the vehicle has been seized. The brutal killing came when police received information about animal smugglers in the area. After receiving the information, police conducted checking in Tupudana OP.
Soon after this, a white colored pickup van was seen coming fast at around three o'clock on Wednesday morning. Sandhya Topno, posted at the checking post, signaled the vehicle to stop, but the driver crushed the lady inspector. She was seriously injured and then she died on the way to the hospital.
The Ranchi Police had nabbed the accused and also seized the vehicle. However, many smugglers jumped out of the car and fled. Search is on for other accused.
A similar incident took place in Haryana, where a 59-year-old deputy superintendent of Haryana Police was mowed down by a truck carrying stones from an illegal mining site in the Aravalis when he intercepted the vehicle and asked the driver to stop in Pachgaon village of Nuh around noon on Tuesday.
