Days after reporting the first-ever case of monkeypox in the state, Kerala has now reported another case of monkeypox. This is the second case of monkeypox in the state as well as the country. As per the Kerala health department, the second case of the virus has been detected in Kannur.
Health minister Veena George said, "the second positive case has been confirmed in Kannur district." A 31-year-old Kannur native arrived from the Middle East country on July 13. The youth was under observation in an isolated ward at Pariyaram Medical College.
His samples were sent to NIV Pune and they tested positive for monkeypox, the officials said. "The patient's health condition is reported to be satisfactory. Those in close contact with him have been put under surveillance, "said George.
India reported its first case of monkeypox on Friday. A 35-year-old person from Kollam district, who arrived from the Middle East country, tested positive for monkeypox. He is admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram medical college hospital. The Union Health Ministry had rushed a high-level multi-disciplinary team to Kerala to assist the state health authorities in instituting public health measures.
The alert has been issued to five districts as people from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Kottayam were co-passengers of the infected person in the Sharjah-Thiruvananthapuram Indigo flight that landed on 12 July.
