Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the 6.5 m long National Emblem cast made of bronze on the roof of the New Parliament Building, on Monday (Jul 11). What followed was an act of absolute baseless controversy!

Lions in the national emblem

The so-called liberals, Opposition, and activists raised questions about the new design in which the four lions have bared their fangs, which according to them is in contrast to the Lion Capital of Emperor Ashoka in Sarnath.

"Narendra Modi Ji, please observe the face of the Lion, whether it is representing the statue of Great Sarnath or a distorted version of GIR lion. Please check it and if it needs, mend the same," Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha tweeted.

Advocate and a liberal Prashant Bhushan said the lion’s faces on the emblem had been changed from peaceful to angry. He said, "From Gandhi to Godse; From our national emblem with lions sitting majestically & peacefully; to the new national emblem unveiled for the top of the new Parliament building under construction at Central Vista; Angry lions with bared fangs. This is Modi’s new India!"

Meanwhile, historian S Irfan Habib, too, objected to the national emblem unveiled atop the new Parliament building. "Meddling with our national emblem was totally unnecessary and avoidable. Why should our lions look ferocious and full of angst? These are Ashoka's lions adapted by independent India in 1950," Habib said.

While sharing images of old and new national emblems, Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Jawahar Sircar tweeted, "Insult to our national symbol, the majestic Ashokan Lions. Original is on the left, graceful, regally confident. The one on the right is Modi's version, put above the new Parliament building - snarling, unnecessarily aggressive and disproportionate. Shame! Change it immediately."

Yes, of course, other parties such as the Communist Party of India (Marxist), All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Trinamool Congress, and others also objected to the Centre's decision not to invite them to the event.

It is pertinent to mention that the liberals are wrong. Nobody but netizens pointed it out! When one sees the photographs of a National Emblem, the lions, their mouths are open and the teeth are clearly visible. How can the liberals or Opposition question that the National Emblem has ‘calmer-looking’ lions that too with images! Fangs of lions are visible in all three images published by Prashant Bhushan.

They called out the liberals saying that it is agenda when the angle is taken at such an angle where it feels that the lions look aggressive. A user tweeted, "Very interesting!! The angle at which the last photo has been taken reveals the agenda... It makes all the difference in how the image will appear and make a visual impression. Here is one which should have been used but then it would defeat the purpose & Agenda!

They also slammed the liberals saying that this is New India where in it is a transition of India from where even the Lion (might be UPA or Congress) was toothless, shoulder dropping to a roaring one, ready to take on the enemy. New India has left behind the cowardice, impotency of yesteryears!

Such responses have left the liberals and Opposition red-faced!
