London, Jun 7: United Kingdom Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has confirmed that the UK is sending its first long-range missiles to Ukraine. Wallace said, the M270 multiple-launch rocket system that UK will be sending to the war struck European country, will help Ukraine defend itself against Russia.
Wallace announced the decision to send its first long-range missiles to Ukraine and said that the UK was taking a leading role in supplying Ukrainian troops with the vital weapons they need to defend their country. However, the UK govt has not confirmed the number of weapons that will be sent. The Minister added that it is also a recognition that Ukraine is struggling to compete against Russia's vast artillery arsenal.

Among the features of UK's multiple launch rocket system that is being sent to Ukraine, it is mentioned that it can fire 12 surface-to-surface missiles within a minute and can strike targets within 50 miles with pinpoint accuracy, far further than the artillery Ukraine currently possesses.
The missile system UK is sending to Ukraine, is similar to the system the US is sending, the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS). U.S. President Joe Biden had recently announced plans to give Ukraine HIMARS rocket systems after receiving assurances from Kyiv that it would not use them to hit targets inside Russia. To the same, Russian President Vladimir Putin had responded warning the West that Russia would strike new targets if the United States started supplying Ukraine with longer-range missiles. The UK has continued with their decision despite of the warning.
