Jai Baba Amarnath! First batch of pilgrims reaches Udhampur, a day prior to yatra commencement

Considering the possible security threats to the Amarnath yatra, this is the first time when the security forces have been using a maximum number of sniffer dogs to check the use of explosives by terrorists to disrupt the 43-day annual pilgrimage beginning on June 30.

Srinagar, Jun 29: With just one day left for the Amarnath Yatra, the first batch of pilgrims reached Udhampur on Wednesday (Jun 29) morning. The yatris were welcomed by locals, PRI Members as well as officers of the District Administration. The Yatra from Jammu began earlier today (Jun 29), amid tight security arrangements made by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with the army and the local police.

On this occasion, District Development Council Chairman Lal Chand as well as Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Krittika Jyotsna (IAS) along with locals welcomed the Pilgrims and flagged off towards Amarnath Ji Yatra. DC Udhampur said that proper security arrangements have been made for the pilgrims. Pilgrims reached Jammu late Tuesday (Jun 28) night ahead of the Amarnath Yatra which will be commencing on Jun 30, after a gap of two years.
 
 
 
 
 
Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha met the first batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims from the Jammu base camp on Tuesday (Jun 28) night. The Amarnath shrine pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine of Shiva, located in the upper reaches of the Himalayas, is held from the twin routes of Pahalgam and Baltal. The Jammu and Kashmir govt had cancelled the annual Amarnath pilgrimage due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation in 2020 and 2021 after a discussion with Amarnathji Shrine Board members.
 
 
With merely a day left for the Amarnath Yatra, the langar committees are gearing up to facilitate Amarnath Yatra pilgrims in Udhampur and Baltal. In Jammu and Kashmir, all necessary arrangements have been completed by the Ramban district administration for the convenience of the Amarnath Yatris during their Yatra (pilgrimage) starting from Jun 29 from Jammu, on the 66 Km journey from Nashri to Banihal. Besides this, the DRDO hostel has been made prepared for the Amarnath Yatris.
