The two soldiers of 7 Garhwal Rifles were missing since May 29. One of the two, has been named as Prakash Singh Rana, 34. According to Rana's wife, she had last communicated with her husband on May 27. Rana had messaged his wife and informed her that he is fine. Rana had last visited his home in Nov 2021 and had left for his posting on Jan 23, 2022. According to the reports, efforts are being made to find the missing soldiers with the help of local authorities in Arunachal Pradesh. Although the missing soldiers are being linked to Chinese abduction over social media, there are no confirmations from the Indian army that the two are victims of cross-border abductions.

According to the Indian army, the two soldiers are presumed to have accidently fallen in a fast flowing river in forward areas of Anjaw district in Arunachal Pradesh and are missing since 28 May. The rounds on social media claiming Chinese abductions, however, root back to the two recent border incidents in Arunachal Pradesh, where tribal hunters and gatherers had gone missing and had later turned up in the custody of the Chinese army.
