In a spine-chilling development amid the ongoing Prophet Muhammad row, an effigy of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma was found hanging on the Fort Road in Belagavi on Friday. The photos of the effigy have been going viral on social media. The picture shows the effigy of Nupur Sharma hanging from an overhead wire.
As per the reports, some miscreants hanged the effigy at night in the middle of a street in the Belagavi district of Karnataka. After the police noticed the effigy, they removed it from the area which is described as communally sensitive.
The police have registered a case against unknown miscreants for spreading enmity between communities and disturbing peace in society.
This nerve-racking development comes at a time when Nupur Sharma is receiving multiple life-threatening messages from the Islamists over her controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad. Following the complaint, Delhi Police had provided security to Sharma and her family. "Sharma and her family have been provided police security after she alleged that she has been receiving threats and was being harassed over her remarks," an official said.
Nupur has found herself at the center of a raging storm since she passed a controversial comment during a news debate. Following the protest, the BJP suspended Nupur Sharma over her remarks on the Prophet Muhammad.
