In a shocking development, a Mangaluru based social media Muslim group, ‘Muslim Defence Force’, claiming itself as the protector of Muslim rights has allegedly threatened Muslim girls against taking selfies or being seen with boys without Burqua.
The report suggests that the group, which is mostly active on WhatsApp and Instagram has also threatened that those women who don’t wear the burqa in public places would be attacked. Moreover, the group has also asked parents of Muslim women to keep an eye on their children wherever they go.
The group said in WhatsApp messages that they are ‘monitoring’ Muslim girls in Mangalore for any ‘misbehavior’, adding that if they are not wearing a burqa, they will be beaten up.
The Mangalore Police took note of the group’s activities after some Muslim organisations gave representations against the MDF. Mangalore Police Commissioner Shashi Kumar said they are monitoring the threat messages on social media platforms related to Muslim Defence Force.
"One WhatsApp group claims itself to be the protector of Muslim rights. They are saying that Muslim women who wear a burqa in public places should not take it out to take photographs and selfies in public places, or they will be attacked. They have sent messages to parents on social media. So we have been watchful about it," the commissioner said.
