Paris, May 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited France as the last part of his Europe visit and met the freshly elected French President Emmanuel Macron. The Prime Minister visited France after attending the second India - Nordic summit in Denmark.
PM Modi arrived in Berlin on May 2, on the first leg of his three European nation (Germany - Denmark - France) tour. On the final leg of his Europe tour, PM Modi landed in France on May 4 and met the newly elected French President Emmanuel Macron. Macron was recently elected as the President of France for a second consecutive term, after winning the Presidential elections against Marine Le Pen.
Both the nations have built one of the premier strategic partnerships for advancing peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. The two reiterated their shared vision of a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific region, based on commitment international law, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, freedom of navigation and a region free from coercion, tensions and conflicts. Indo-France Indo-Pacific partnership encompasses defence and security, trade, investment, connectivity, health and sustainability.
At the same time, France reiterated its strong condemnation of the unlawful and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine by Russian Forces. Both the leaders expressed serious concern at the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. India and France expressed satisfaction at the adoption of the bilateral roadmap on Blue Economy and Ocean Governance and committed to accelerating its implementation. Besides, France also reiterated its steadfast support for India’s bid for a permanent membership of the UN Security Council as well as membership in the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
Going a step forward in their mutual commitment to clean energy, India invited France to participate in its initiative to make India a Green Hydrogen Hub under its National Hydrogen Mission. Both sides are eager to foster cooperation on decarbonized hydrogen, including on aspects related to regulation, certification and standardization of such hydrogen in order to build robust industrial partnerships and agreed to soon finalize a roadmap to take forward this cooperation.
