Despite of French Naval Group opting out of P-75, France promises support for 'Make in India'

India and France in yesterday"s (May 4) meet, have underscored that the long-standing armament cooperation is testimony to the mutual trust between the two countries.

New Delhi, May 5: During PM Modi's visit to France the recent announcement of French Defence major naval group to opt out of the 'P-75 India' submarine project was softly discussed. Both sides agreed to find creative ways for France’s deeper involvement in the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.

According to the last reports that came out by April end, the French Naval Group had announced that it will be unable to participate in the P - 75 India (P-75I) project, under which six conventional submarines are to be built in India for the Indian navy. The Naval group that opted out is one of the five shortlisted international players for the Rs. 43,000-crore project.
 
 
 
 
 
While the same happened shortly prior to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Europe visit that included his visit to France, India and France in yesterday's (May 4) meet, have underscored that the long-standing armament cooperation is testimony to the mutual trust between the two sides. According to the joint statement, the six Scorpene submarines built at Mazgaon Docks Limited (MDL) in Mumbai illustrates the level of transfer of technology from France to India, in line with the "Make in India” initiative.

The statement mentions that the two sides enjoy synergy in the field of defence, as seen in the timely delivery of the Rafale despite the pandemic. Taking forward the same momentum, and based on mutual trust that the nations share, both sides agreed to find creative ways for France’s deeper involvement in 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-reliant India) efforts in advanced defence technology, manufacturing and exports, including through encouraging increased industry to industry partnerships.
