PM Modi gifts Odisha's Pattachitra painting depicting Ram Darbar to Denmark PM Frederiksen

PM Modi before leaving Berlin, had also gifted the German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz with an authentic "Sedali", that is a writing table completely made out of wood.

New Delhi, May 4: While, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on his visit to Denmark, he has gifted Odisha's indigenous art piece - Pattachitra painting to his Danish counterpart, PM Mette Frederiksen. The painting depicts scene from the Shri Ram Darbar. PM Modi gifted the souvenir to PM Frederiksen while he was on a tour to the Danish PM's residence.

A citation that was gifted along with the Pattachitra described the Odia art quoting, "Pattachitra painting on cloth is amongst the most distinct forms of traditional painting of the eastern state of Odisha. These iconic paintings, a domain of the Chitrakar community of the painters, depict religious themes - stories from the Indian epics of Ramayana, Mahabharata, Krishna Lila and incarnations of Lord Vishnu."
 
 
 
 
 
It further read, "The paintings are colourful and characterized by creative motifs and details of human figures, jewelry and costumes. This painting depicts the Ram Darbar or the court of Lord Shri Ram, the legendary God King of Ayodhya who is one of the most exalted figures of in the Hindu epic 'Ramayana'."
 
Describing the sanctity of Bhagwan Shri Ram, it is mentioned that, "Shri Ram is worshipped as the ideal of truth, goodness and devotion to duty. "It concludes saying, "The highly detailed painting illuminates the main events from the epic of Ramayana highlighting the life and ideals of Shri Ram."
 
PM Modi, before leaving Berlin, had also gifted the German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz with an authentic 'Sedali', that is a writing table completely made out of wood. The craft is native to Surat in Gujarat through the Parsi community, who migrated to India from Iran. It is used as a writing table by many merchants even today.
