For the first time, no namaz on roads in UP during Eid

According to the officials, around 50,000 to one lakh people used to offer namaz on roads and other places in Uttar Pradesh.

Lucknow, May 4: Not a single untoward incident was reported in Uttar Pradesh as people celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr, Akshay Tritiya and Parshuram Jayanti peacefully. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised people for "not organizing" religious events on roads. The officials said that it was the first time that Eid namaz was not offered on roads. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar also praised people for displaying the state's "Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb" while celebrating three festivals in a single day.

Heaping praise on people, Chief Minister Adityanath tweeted: "A number of religious events were successfully held in Uttar Pradesh. The people of the state have taken a good initiative by not organizing them on roads." The UP CM stressed that everyone should respect each other's faith and also a rule of law should be followed by all so that harmony can be maintained. "For a healthy and harmonious society, it is necessary that along with respect for the faith, there should also be a rule of law. This will become the foundation for the development of the state and self-reliance of citizens." Yogi Adityanath tweeted in Hindi. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar also thanked religious leaders for peacefully celebrating the festivals.
 
 
The top cop thanked them saying that everyone celebrated the festivals amid its "traditional Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb." He informed that namaz was peacefully offered at around 32,000 places on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr. "No untoward incident of any kind took place anywhere in the state, and people celebrated Eid with traditional fervor and gaiety," he said. The UP ADG (Law and Order) further said that police have made elaborate arrangements so that no untoward incident takes place as Akshay Tritiya and Parshuram Jayanti too were being celebrated on May 3. The Eid Namaz event in Lucknow was attended by UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, former CM Akhilesh Yadav, former Deputy CM Dinesh Sharma, state minister Danish Azad Ansari. Over five lakh people offered namaz at the Eidgah maidan in Lucknow on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
