Gen Naravane lays his last wreath at War Memorial as COAS

Gen Naravane had been the COAS during important events in Indian security such as immediate period following abrogation of Art 370 in Jammu Kashmir, celebrations of Swarnim Vijay Varsha (50 years of India - Pakistan War, 1971) as well as the India China conflict over LAC starting from the Galwan Valley skirmishes in May 2020.

New Delhi, Apr 30: Ahead of his retirement, Chief of Amry Staff (COAS) General Manoj Mukund Naravane paid his last tributes at the National War Memorial as India's COAS. The General will be retiring today (Apr 30) from his responsibilities as India's Chief of Army Staff, after serving the nation for 40 years.

General MM Naravane, the 27th Army Chief, had resumed his career on the top most position of the army on Dec 30, 2019 and had continued for the last 28 months. Ahead of relinquishing his post, Gen Naravane laid a wreath at the National War Memorial and received the Guard of Honor at the South Block lawns, on Apr 30.
 
An alumnus of Pune's National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, Gen Naravane started his service in the Indian Army in Jun 1980 as a Second Lieutenant, after being commissioned into the 7th battalion of the Sikh Light Infantry. The General, in initial years of his service, was integrally involved in vital security areas such as the Counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast India. Naravane was also part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka during Operation Pawan.
 
 
 
 
 
In 2019, Gen MM Naravane was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal. (2017),He had also received the Sena Medal, Vishist Seva Medal, and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal. Gen Naravane had been the COAS during important events in Indian security such as immediate period following abrogation of Art 370 in Jammu Kashmir, celebrations of Swarnim Vijay Varsha (50 years of India - Pakistan War, 1971), enhancement of lady cadets in the Indian army and induction of first batch at NDA as well as the India China conflict over LAC starting from the Galwan Valley skirmishes in May 2020. His tenure is also marked with increasing indigenization of defence equipment in the Indian Army. General MM Naravane has been succeeded by Gen Manoj Pandey.
