New Delhi, Apr 22: After visiting a day at Gujarat, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson accompanied by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will today be visiting the national capital, starting his day from the Rashtrapati Bhavan. At the welcoming ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan, the UK PM remarks his first day of the visit saying, "fantastic welcome by people of Gujarat" and added, "wouldn't get that necessarily everywhere."
UK PM Boris Johnson, in his first visit to India after the Pandemic, landed at Ahmedabad on Apr 21. He started his visit by visiting the Sabarmati Ashram, with Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel where the UK PM was gifted 'Guide to London', one of Mahatma Gandhi's unpublished books. At Ahmedabad, Johnson met leading business group leaders and discussed India - UK's thriving commercial, trade, and social bond.
The second day of his visit in New Delhi begins from a welcoming ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. According to the UK govt, Johnson will reiterate the vital importance of the UK-India partnership for global peace and security, as he visits New Delhi. In consideration of complex new threats faced by both the countries, the Prime Ministers are to discuss next-generation defence and security collaboration across the five domains - land, sea, air, space and cyber - in meetings.
The discussion will include support for new Indian-designed and built fighter jets, offering the best of British know-how on building battle-winning aircraft. The UK will also seek to support India’s requirements for new technology to identify and respond to threats in the Indian Ocean. To support greater defence and security collaboration with India over the coming decade, the UK will issue an Open General Export License (OGEL) to India, reducing bureaucracy and shortening delivery times for defence procurement. It will be UK's first OGEL in the Indo-Pacific region.
