Mumbai, April 13: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray gave an ultimatum to the Maharashtra government and reiterated his demand that loudspeakers from mosques be removed. He has asked the government to act before May 3.
Speaking in a rally in Thane, Raj Thackeray said that if the Shiv Sena-led state govt did not remove loudspeakers from mosques before May 3, MNS workers will play Hanuman Chalisa in front of mosques.
Earlier this month, Raj Thackeray announced that the state government should remove all loudspeakers from mosques, claiming that they caused a nuisance. He had said that he wasn't against any prayer, but people should follow their faith at their respective residences and not cause trouble to others.
Following Raj Thackeray’s address, many MNS supporters had started playing Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers in front of mosques, after which police action was initiated against them.
