Soon after the Indian government briefed a parliamentary committee on the Ukraine situation, former Congress Minister and diplomat Shashi Tharoor praised the session saying this is the spirit in which foreign policy should be run.
Going further, he also praised foreign minister S Jaishankar for a 'comprehensive briefing' on the evacuation of Indians from war-torn Ukraine and for providing 'candid responses to our questions.
Tharoor's praising came amid when oppositions are trying to criticise the government by politicising the entire Ukraine situation. The meeting was attended by Congress' Rahul Gandhi who is a member of the committee, along with party colleagues Anand Sharma and Shashi Tharoor.
Yesterday, Foreign minister S Jaishankar briefed the 21-member consultative committee on foreign affairs on the prevailing situation in war-torn Ukraine and India's operation to airlift stranded nationals.
After which, Tharoor took Twitter and tweeted: "Excellent meeting of the Consultative Committee on External Affairs this morning on Ukraine. My thanks to Dr. S Jaishankar & his colleagues for a comprehensive briefing & candid responses to our questions & concerns. This is the spirit in which foreign policy should be run".
Apart from Tharoor, Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi who has been questioning the government over problems being faced by Indians in Ukrainealso described the meeting as very good. "We were well briefed and stand united with the government," she said.
