Maharashtra govt schools to soon get CCTV cameras to prevent sexual harassment

Minister Varsha Gaikwad said, "In the coming academic year, Maharashtra government will try to install CCTV cameras in all govt schools of the state to prevent the incidents of sexual harassment of girls."

Mumbai, March 25: Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad informed on Friday, that the state is going to install CCTV cameras in state-run schools to prevent incidents of sexual harassment. She provived this information in the state assembly today.

The minister stated, "In the coming academic year, Maharashtra government will try to install CCTV cameras in all government schools of the state to prevent the incidents of sexual harassment of girls."
 
 
The state assembly was further told by the school education minister that Maharashtra has more than 65,000 schools, of which more than 1,000 schools already have operational CCTV cameras.

She added, "For the rest of the government schools, we have taken a policy decision to install cameras in the coming academic year, with the work already having commenced."

An order to install CCTV cameras in all private schools was also issued by the government in April 2016. Explaining further, she said, "First, the schools with a larger number of students will get CCTV cameras. Then, we will move towards schools with a lesser number of students.”

“However, we will try to install cameras in all schools by the next academic year," she added.
