Addressing a rally in Malakand, Khan said,"Main aaj Hindustan ko daad deta hun (I salute India today). It has always maintained an independent foreign policy. Today, India is in their (America) alliance and they are part of QUAD (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue); they say that are neutral. They are importing oil from Russia despite sanctions because their policy is for the betterment of people".

Notably, unlike fellow members of the Quad alliance - Japan, Australia and the United States - India has abstained in three UN votes condemning Moscow's actions, calling only for a halt to the violence.

Earlier in January, Imran Khan had also praised India for its boom in the information and technology sector, and hailed the policies attracting investments. The former cricket captain-turned politician's remark has come amid a no-confidence motion moved by a joint opposition which will be taken up by the Pakistan National Assembly on March 25. A substantial number of lawmakers from his party PTI are also believed to be voting against the government.

"We've received praise across the world for many of our foreign policy initiatives at the level of the PM. I think our record speaks for itself", says Foreign secretary Harsh V Shringla on Imran Khan lauding India's foreign policy amid Russian invasion of Ukraine.
