Ironic! Corruption case filed against Bihar cop Amit Lodha who inspired Netflix show 'Khakee' showing honesty of Indian cops

New Delhi, Dec 9: In an ironic development, senior IPS officer Amit Lodha who became a popular face instantly following the release of the web series ‘Khakee’ based on his book ‘Bihar Diaries’, has been charged by Bihar Police for corruption and allegedly using his position for financial gains. He has entered into a commercial agreement with Netflix while being on a government post.

"While serving as an IPS officer, Lodha signed an agreement with a private firm that caused him financial gains. He allegedly agreed to a deal with a firm that produced web series on his book. Lodha is not an established story writer nor was he authorised to write a book and use it for commercial purposes," the The Special Monitoring Unit of Bihar Police said in the statement.

Lodha has also been charged with entering into an agreement with Netflix and Friday Story Teller for financial gains despite being a serving government servant. He allegedly agreed to a deal with the production company for Rs 1 but according to the police, his wife's account had a transaction for 49 lakh rupees.
The unit has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Indian Penal Code’s Sections 120 (B) related to criminal conspiracy and 168 (public servant unlawfully engaging in trade). "This happened during Lodha's tenure as IG of Magadh range," said a senior police officer posted at SVU.
 
The FIR against Lodha states that Lodha had been earning "illicitly" ever since he was posted as Inspector General of Police in Gaya. "Amit Lodha is not an established story writer neither he was authorised nor permitted to write book and use same for commercial purpose," states the complaint.
 
The web series 'Khakee: The Bihar Chapter" is the story of how a police officer manages to nab a dreaded gangster who had created a reign of terror in Bihar's Sheikhpura district. The show is based on a book, Bihar Diaries, written by Lodha himself.
