Pon Manikavel, who served as IG of Anti-Idol Trafficking Unit in Tamil Nadu, retired from the service. He filed a complaint yesterday (Dec 27) morning at the Balushettichatram police station in Kanchipuram district. According to the reports of
Tamil media, the petition states:
Between Govindawadi-Tirumalpur, there was a 1,071 year old, standing and blessed Perumal temple. This temple disappeared 40 years ago. For more than 30-40 years after the theft, it was kept hidden from the government without informing the concerned police station, and now it has come to light. Thus mentioned in it.
After filing the complaint, he told the reporters: Next to Kanchipuram, between Govindavadi and Tirumalpur, there was a temple called Alvar, which stood for 1,071 years and was blessed by Perumal Uiyakonda. It is sad that this temple was not even known to the Archaeology Department of India. As much as 40 years ago people of Govindawadi area used to worship in this temple everyday.
It is regrettable that the temple was completely stolen and disappeared without the knowledge of the Vaishnava jis. The Alwar Perumal temple, which has the grace of Perumal standing, is evidenced by the temple inscription that it was built extensively during the Chola period.
