Hyderabad, December 22: Stroking another controversy, Telangana Health Director Srinivas on Wednesday attributed the reduction in coronavirus cases in the country to Jesus Christ. He also hailed Christianity for teaching mankind the art of survival. The comments came at a time when China is in the midst of an unprecedented coronavirus wave, with hospitals overwhelmed with patients and medical staff stretched thin.
Srinivas said the reason COVID-19 subsided in India was because of the benevolence of Jesus Christ. He made the remarks while participating in the Semi-Christmas celebrations held in the Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
“Christianity is the reason for India’s development. It is because of the grace of Jesus Christ that Covid has decreased. Many people think that it has decreased because we are doing good, but that is not the reality. The cases have reduced because of Jesus Christ,” said Srinivas.
He reportedly added, “The existence of humankind is in danger. There are many gods but Jesus is the only one who walked on earth.” Srinivas said that the ancestors saw all this and they said it to future generations. He further exhorted people to carry the message of Jesus Christ and convey it to future generations, regardless of caste and religion.
Reacting to his statement, BJP leader Krishna Sagar Rao said that such statement should not have been made. "It is completely unacceptable and he shows the religious identity overbearing on his professional identity as a Director of Health in Telangana."
He added, "He not only said that India is what it is today and is rising because of Christianity, he is also saying that Covid-19 and subsequent fallout was rescued by Jesus. He could have faith but he cannot make this kind of statement in public. Why is he a Health Director? He should resign and go. Let God protect." Krishna Sagar Rao said.
