About three years back I purchased a Black trouser from a reasonably good brand and started using it as per my routine. I do prefer a black trouser over other colours specially on formal occasions. Maintenance of clothes in my home is excellent, kind courtesy my superior half who is very gentle in handling of clothes. About a year back, I thought this trouser needs a change because it got bit tight on my waist. I told my wife and she agreed. May be that the cloth did shrink a bit, so we thought since my weight remained same. We purchased the same brand and included in my wardrobe.
I started using the new trouser and everything was smooth. Old trouser was neglected, though still it found the place in the wardrobe. As the luck could have had it, I got some time and started following my morning protocols more religiously.
After about a month later, I found that my new trouser has become lose and was not giving a desired look so, I looked for the old trouser. The moment I put it on, my wife pointed out that it was looking absolutely fit and apt. So, I started using it again, new trouser was placed in the corner of wardrobe.
The thought came to my mind “Was it possible for me to be leaner and fitter and continue with the old trouser in the first place and the answer was Yes.”
Let us extrapolate the analogy with so many issues in our life, should we fit into new job, new company, old job but with a new boss or new place on transfer? We want to change the situation around us but are not prepared to look at the issues in side us. I have seen so many people who wish to change their jobs just because they get the transfer or boss has changed or their job description changed due to business circumstances.
You will find people ready to go to doctor on regular basis and follow the timings of medications as per his advice but are not prepared to follow the regular exercise or walking routine? I met a young enthusiast who had a night shift because his clients were from USA but came for morning Yoga session in the park.
I asked him “why the young generation cannot follow the exercise routine or Yoga session on regular basis.”
“Sir, we have a tendency to complicate the issue, unless the situation complicates, we do not look for solutions. Easy solutions are available but not acceptable to us, Yoga and meditations are easy solutions to complicated problems and this is the reason it is not that popular among young generation.”
I was clean bowled with his straight, blunt and correct answer.
I was not required to purchase a new trouser, but was required to look inside my eating habits or exercise regimen to keep in shape.
Incidentally same principles can be applied for management of relationships as well. Need I say more?
